If you want to get more gym members you'll need to respond in a timely manner. One issue we've seen over and over again is that gyms take way too long to respond to their leads. People are constantly being marketed to these days and it's difficult to get their attention. If a person took the time to visit your site and was interested enough to fill out a form or send an email, then you need to respond to that person as soon as possible.

Ideally, you should follow up within two hours of them reaching out to you. If you wait longer than that, they may have completely forgotten about you. Not only that, but you want to catch them while they're in the same state of mind that inspired them to contact you in the first place.

  1. Call them first: We've found that people are more likely to show up when you call them directly first. Emailing can work, but it’s much easier to ignore an email or delete. Find out what works best for you. For your next 20 leads, call 10 of them right away and email 10 of them right away. Then see which tactic will help you get more gym members.
  2. Use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool: Using a CRM is a great way to keep track of all your clients and know exactly when to contact them. Some CRMs you could try are Zen Planner, Zoho, Sales Force or Netsuite.
  3. Autoresponder: Using an autoresponder can be highly useful as well. You could have an email autoresponder when someone fills out your contact form. It will contact them immediately and works especially well if you’re strapped for time. More importantly, you can use an autoresponder periodically. For example, if a lead doesn’t respond right away, you could automatically send them an email once a week for the next few weeks. It might just be enough to remind them that they had some interest in your gym.

Remember, your response time is critical. The longer you wait, you’re letting people who could have been members just slip away.
