The On-Page SEO Checklist for Fitness Businesses

Let's say you go to Google and type in "Women's Running Shoes". That is your keyword. Brainstorm some keywords you think people will be using to search for your gym. Imagine if people don't know who you...

1. Keyword Research:

Let's say you go to Google and type in "Women's Running Shoes". That is your keyword. Brainstorm some keywords you think people will be using to search for your gym. Imagine if people don't know who you are or your brand. How will they find you? If you own a gym in San Diego, your keyword shouldn't be the name of your brand. They could be "Gym in San Diego" "Yoga Studio in San Diego", etc...

Come up with a list of your top keywords and we're going to implement them later.

Do not use the same keywords on all of your pages. You don't want your pages to compete against each other for attention.

Try using Google's Keyword Planner to come up with keyword ideas.

2.Title Tags for Better On Page SEO:

Title tags are important when it comes to on-page SEO.

The HTML looks like this:

<title>Keyword | Business Name</title>

Here's how you can optimize your title tag:

<title>Yoga Studio in San Diego | Jennie's Yoga<title>

3. h1 Tags:

There should only be one h1 tag per page. You should use a keyword in that h1 tag.

Here's what and h1 tag looks like in HTML:

<h1>This is a headline</h1>

Here's how you could optimize it with a keyword (the keyword is bold for example purposes:

<h1>Join the best Yoga Studio in San Diego</h1>

4. Meta Description:

These tags won't help you rank better but may make people more interested in clicking on your site. Your meta description should be well written and entice the user to click on your link.

Here is the meta description tag:

<head>
<meta name="description" content="This will show up in the results on google.">
</head>

Here's how your meta description looks in the search engines:

5. High-Quality Content:

Everyone says it, but I'll say it again. Content is king. This is why blogging is so important. You don't have to start blogging for SEO purposes but rather to give your audience high-quality content and you can engage with them. You should have highly valuable content on your website pages and can include keywords in it. You should definitely start blogging as well.

6. Image Optimization:

Google can't see images, but there are ways to help Google read them.

Filename:

Most people name their files random things such as df894jff.jpg

Name your images something relevant like yoga_boston.jpg

Next, we have alt attributes. You should use the alt attributes and it's ok to include a keyword in them.

Here's an example:

<img src="yoga_boston.jpg" alt="Yoga Studio in Boston"/>

7. XML Sitemap:

XML sitemaps won't necessarily help you rank better either, but it's like giving a map to the search engines that tell them where all your pages are that they might not have known about.

This should be plenty to get you started with your on-page SEO. Remember SEO is a long-term and on-going practice. You can't expect to be number one in the search engines overnight. If you need help with your website SEO contact us here
